Q: How long have you been a coach at VCS?
A: 16 years
Q: What are your future goals for the basketball program?
A: Continue to build from the younger grades up and compete for championships
Q: What made you want to be a coach?
A: The interaction with young men and being able to mentor their lives
Q: What inspired you to become a coach?
A: It was in between what I was doing at the time and what I was mentored at Kansas. My coaches inspired me.
Q: How do you stay up to date with new coaching techniques?
A: I speak to other coaches and watch film. I also watch college basketball games.
Q: How do you handle conflicts within the team?
A: Most problems are player-to-player, not coach-to-player. The issue is getting them on the same page.
Q: How do you measure success in coaching?
A: If we get better from the time of pre-season individual workouts to the end of the season. It’s not all about wins and losses.
Q: How do you assess the strengths and weaknesses of each player?
A: I’ve been doing this my entire career by watching each player and talking to them
Q: How do you manage pushing your players to their limits without injuring them?
A: I don’t put them on the line, they are responsible for their conditioning
Q: How do you motivate your athletes?
A: Talking to them and speaking with all of them. I speak into their lives and they have to be able to handle adversary.
